Miss Independent, Kelly Clarkson, in South Africa

It’s Friday afternoon, and today is the day I get to go and watch my first 5fm presented concert. Yes my first. I get home after work, sort myself out and I await the arrival of my best mate so we can start our journey to the Northgate Dome.

We arrive like ants on a jam sandwich at a picnic to the Dome - every race, every age group all excited. For some it’s their first concert ever. The excitement buzzes around the parking lot as we start to hear her songs bellowing from cars. The vibe is amazing.

We get into the Dome, and have a fight with the security-guard at the bar because he thinks one of us is too young to enter which is a joke in itself. But once we get our drinks we make our way to the golden circle. We find ourselves a piece of floor to rest our weary bums for a while, before the concerts starts.

Jason, South Africa’s one idol, opens the evening off with some of his songs, but sadly the band is louder than him and he seems so drowned out by his brother on drums. Which is a concern for me; I am worried this is going to be a long, loud evening of songs we just can’t hear the words to. But once he
leaves the stage, a whole bunch of people run about on stage fixing the sound equipment.

We wait for what feels like forever BUT at 9pm the reason we’ve all came out that night walks onto stage. Out of the darkness she comes as the band starts, and the crowd goes wild for Miss Independent. That’s right, its Kelly Clarkson, singing her latest hit, Miss Independent.

I turn to my friends and say, “Wow! She sounds just like the CD!” And she REALLY does! She has such energy, bouncing around the stage in 30 degree temperatures, not missing a beat or a note, singing with and without music. She has a DJ scratching, getting the crowd to sing with her, thanking us for our support, letting us know how much she loves South Africa and how she
will be back, singing all our favourite songs and ending with This Place Would Suck Without You. She truly takes everyone’s breathe away!

Kelly Clarkson, thank you for the most amazing concert I have ever seen.

You are truly a real talent and gem to the musical industry.
