It’s a BIKE world

Yeah that’s right; it’s a biker’s world.

There is no feeling like being on a motorcycle, and everyone always questions me on its safety and maybe it’s because I am a woman on a motorcycle or maybe it’s because you always hear of Motorcycle accidents. But I am proud to say that in the almost year I have had my bike I have been yet to be involved in one. I say this touching wood and hoping that this is not me bringing Murphy and his proverbial law, into my life.

But for me a bike is better than a car, I mean I have not experienced traffic like we all do within in Johannesburg between 8am and 9am and 4pm and 6pm. For me I climb on my bike and I’m gone. People in cars are very friendly and even move over to allow you to pass them. But seriously there is nothing better than getting home from a stressful day at work and not having to get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.

Never mind the fuel economy, Ok I travel 8kms to work and back but my little 4litre tank literally gets me to work and back for a week and a half. And so far the highest amount of money I have put was around R27. So technically I am doing my bit for the environment as well.

Yeah when it rains we do get wet but only if we travel un-prepared. I have this waterproof suite I call my wet suite, which certainly works. But it is slippery on the roads and so one should take extra care. My bigger issue or should I say my only Issues are these thing that fly around us that if in a car I would spray some water and turn my windscreen wipers on to remove off my windscreen. But on a bike this small perk the car has that bikes don’t. Instead I have these rather large flying objects coming hurtling at me like stones and SPLAT! it’s nasty looking guts all across my visor. I have to turn my head to the side to allow the dead creature to fly off so that I can see again. And what’s worse is I have to clean my helmet with my own hands.

And then there is the trucks that I doubt are road worthy that have their oil and diesel mixing or something but the clouds of smoke that bellow out of them, are distracting, engulfing and very toxic. These are not just hazardous to the bikers out there but every pedestrian on the roads. And if these trucks are in covered parking lots it’s even worse. At least I can gain a quick escape if we come to a traffic light. Then I can escape.

But after all the pro’s and all the con’s I am happy to say I still love my bike, so much so I want an upgrade on the one I have. So please THINK BIKE and maybe get one. I doubt you will regret it.
